Italy

This past November I had the wonderful experience of leading a group of US students through  a week of teaching on the art of the Renaissance and Baroque periods with stress on Italian art. The week of teaching was followed by a week of travel. Lead by Samuel Spatola, the team traveled to several of the most prominent historic centers in Rome and Florence. Bella! The only challenge was the rain that fell throughout most of the days we were on foot. But still, it was a time of great learning and fun.

I was teaching under the auspices of The Saints Bible Institute, which has had a powerful teaching, missionary, and evangelistic presence in northern Italy for decades. Lord willing, I hope to return to Italy for more teaching and travel with the new students in November, 2011. This year we plan to visit Rome and Florence again, but also Venice. I will need to brush up on my knowledge of Venetian architecture, which is most fascinating. The time together with the students again promises to be one of intellectual but also spiritual growth, as we investigate the Christian presuppositions Italian Renaissance and Baroque artists brought to their enduring compositions.
